5 Easy Ways To Burn Calories Without Dieting

Burning calories sounds great and all, but then comes the exercise, dieting, and lifestyle changes that none of us like to make. If you love to eat, and you feel that it’s healthy and good for you to have three to five meals or snacks a day, then this article is for you.

In it, we’re going to teach you how to burn calories without dieting. Too many people have the wrong idea, anyway. They think that restricting calories and going on crash diets is a good thing -- that it helps them to lose weight. In the end, it’s unsustainable, it slows down your metabolism, and it runs you down.

The right idea is to eat enough, eat well, and burn those calories off with healthy lifestyle habits, a healthy metabolism, and a good daily regimen.

Here’s a rundown of the top five ways to burn calories without dieting.

1. Drink More Water

Most of us don’t know how dehydrated we are. Just drinking more water can be a great way to lose weight. See, a lot of us confuse our thirst signals with hunger signals. Keeping a bottle close by at all times is a good idea. Water does a lot for your body.

There are hundreds of health benefits to drinking lots of water. You should be drinking a lot of water, anyway. If you’re full of coffee, alcohol from the night before, and sugar, you’re probably dehydrated. Invest in a water bottle that you can take to work.

2. Eat More Superfoods

Add as many superfoods to your daily meals as you can. They’re chock full of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that will fill you with long-lasting energy and make your metabolism work better.

You don’t want to feel sluggish, tired, and worn out during the day, so don’t eat a sugary breakfast. Eat a superfood breakfast! Superfoods actually taste really great.

Many superfoods, like blueberries, goji berries, and yogurt, taste really great. If you just switch to a superfood breakfast, you’ll notice a profound difference in a short time.

3. Pick an Active Hobby

There’s nothing more fun than a great hobby you really like. It’s a great idea to find a hobby that you really love doing. Make sure it’s a physical one. It’s like exercising, but you don’t realize you’re exercising. It’s kind of like tricking your body into exercising.

4. Drink Coffee

Studies have shown that caffeine helps you burn calories faster. How about that? Just drink some fresh hot brew with your morning breakfast. It’ll put your body to work burning calories much faster.

5. Sleep More & Better

When you get plenty of sleep, you’re less likely to snack. When you get less than fours of sleep per night for a long time, your metabolism slows down.

When your metabolism slows down, you burn calories a lot slower. Eating more frequently actually helps speed up your metabolism, too. What you intuitively think about diet is probably wrong. You actually need to eat more -- but eat the right stuff.

Fast Weight-Loss Diet for a 60-Year-Old Woman

No matter what your age, when you're carrying extra weight, you always want to lose it yesterday. But if you're a woman in your 60s, losing weight too fast may cause you to lose precious calorie-burning muscle, which may make it more difficult to keep the weight off in the long run. Losing slow and steady is a better way to slim down. Consult your doctor to discuss a healthy diet to help you lose weight.

Calories for 60-Year-Old Woman

As you get older, your calorie-burning capacity decreases, which means you can't eat as much as you used to without gaining weight. In general, women in their 60s need 1,600 to 2,200 calories a day to maintain their weight. Activity level determines where in that range you fall, with sedentary women on the low end and women with an active lifestyle needing more calories.

To lose 1 pound of fat in a week, you need to eat 500 fewer calories a day than you're currently consuming. To limit muscle loss, your rate of weight loss should not exceed 2 pounds a week, which means reducing your daily intake no more than 1,000 calories a day. Also, to prevent nutritional deficiencies, you should not limit your daily intake to 800 calories or less a day. So for example, a woman who usually eats about 2,000 calories a day could lose a pound a week by dropping down to 1,500 calories per day -- either through eating less or exercising more, or preferably both.

Protein for 60-Year-Old Women

To promote loss of fat and preserve muscle mass, you want to make sure you're getting enough protein in your diet. A 2011 study published in The Journals of Gerontology investigated the effects of adding a protein supplement versus a carbohydrate on weight loss in a group of overweight and obese older women following a reduced-calorie diet. The study found that the women supplemented with protein lost more weight and preserved more of their muscle mass than the women taking the carb supplement. The researchers suggest that to maintain physical health and strength, older women trying to lose weight should get a higher percentage of their calories from protein. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics suggests women in their 60s get 5 to 6 ounces of protein a day from foods such as poultry, seafood, lean red meat, soy, beans, eggs and dairy.

Balanced Diet for Weight Loss

While protein is an important part of your weight-loss diet plan, it's also essential that you include a variety of other types of foods so that you get all the vitamins and minerals your body needs to stay healthy, while losing the fat. Include fruits, vegetables and whole-grains in your diet, too. These foods are not only rich in nutrients, but also low in calories and high in fiber. High-fiber foods add bulk so you feel full sooner, and they take longer to digest, keeping you feel full longer, making them a good addition to any weight-loss plan. Don't forget a little fat, which is essential for good health. Get your healthy fats from nuts, olive oil and fatty fish, such as salmon.

Sample 1,400-Calorie Weight-Loss Menu

A weight-loss plan should include three meals a day, with one snack, if you like. A healthy breakfast might include a boiled egg with a whole-wheat English muffin topped with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and a 6-ounce container of nonfat yogurt for 415 calories. For lunch, try 2 cups of mixed greens topped with 1/2 cup of chickpeas, 1 ounce of low-fat cheddar cheese, six chopped almonds, and 2 tablespoons of low-fat salad dressing plus a large banana for 435 calories. A healthy dinner for your weight-loss diet might include 4 ounces of grilled salmon, 1 cup baked sweet potato and 1 cup of roasted Brussels sprouts tossed in 1 teaspoon of olive oil for 475 calories. Snack on 1/2 cup of nonfat milk with 1/2 cup unsweetened whole-grain cereal for 95 calories.

Benefits of Exercise

Add strength-training exercises twice a week to assist in your weight loss. Strength training helps preserve muscle and aids weight loss in older women following a reduced-calorie diet, according to a 2015 study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Use free weights, resistance bands or your own body weight as a tool to strengthen and preserve your muscle while losing the fat. A good strength-training routine should last about 30 minutes and work out all the major muscle groups, doing two sets, with 10 to 12 reps, of each exercise.

Aerobic exercise can also help burn calories for weight loss. The Center for Disease Control recommends you get 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise at a minimum, such as walking or riding a stationary bike, five days a week. Consult your doctor first before starting an exercise program.

Expected Weight Loss in the First Two Weeks on the South Beach Diet

The South Beach Diet includes three phases, the first of which is meant to reduce cravings for starches and sugars while lowering your overall calorie intake. Each of the three phases accommodates three meals, two snacks and a dessert, providing an average of 1,500 calories per day, according to the American Dietetic Association. Weight loss during the first two weeks is generally more rapid than that experienced in the second phase, although individual experience depends on how well you follow the diet, as well as your energy needs.

Initial Weight Loss

During the first two weeks, dieters on phase one of the South Beach Diet strictly limit carbohydrate intakes and completely eliminate juice and alcohol from their diets. Allowed foods include lean proteins such as seafood, low-fat dairy, soy products and lean cuts of meat and pork. Unsaturated fats and certain high-fiber vegetables are also allowed. The South Beach Diet promotes the first phase as a period of rapid weight loss, predicting a loss of 8 to 13 lbs. during the first two weeks.

Concerns

Low-carb diets generally do produce accelerated weight loss at first, due to a combination of water loss and limited food choices. Further, rapid weight loss may also indicate that you're losing lean tissue as opposed to fat, explains MayoClinic.com. Rapid weight loss is generally not recommended, unless under the supervision of a doctor. However, the first phase of the South Beach Diet can be motivating and, because it is short term, is safe for most people. If you experience ketosis symptoms, however, such as nausea, dehydration or weakness, consult your doctor.

Phase Two

Although phase two is designed to follow the initial jump start to weight loss promoted by the first phase, the American Dietetic Association suggests that phase two may be a healthier approach to weight loss from the beginning. The second phase of the South Beach Diet is designed to produce weight loss of 1 to 2 lbs. per week, a healthier and recommended rate of weight loss in general. Phase two of the diet provides a more balanced eating plan that promotes weight loss with guidelines that are suitable for long-term weight management.

Considerations

Following the South Beach Diet is likely to produce weight loss. Besides the likelihood of losing water weight initially, however, the rate of weight loss depends primarily on the number of calories in and out. The higher your weight maintenance calorie needs, the more weight you will likely lose during phase one of the South Beach Diet, simply due to the fact that the imposed calorie restrictions are low enough to establish a significant calorie deficit. Consult with your doctor about which weight-loss programs are right for you, based on your health needs and dietary preferences.

Honey Diet – 6 Pounds Less in Just 7 Days

Sweet and delicious, and also speeds up your metabolism and helps with weight loss. What more could you want? If you want to lose 6 pounds a week, even while sleeping, a honey diet is the right choice for you.

Forget the harmful refined sugar and replace it with natural honey. The main purpose of this diet is to stop your body’s need for sugar.

With just a few tips you will achieve efficiency in burning fat and entering healthy habits in your life. Also, what would make you change the situation in your favor is just a bowl of warm water with a teaspoon of honey.

What You Eat:

Rule 1: Replace the sugar with honey

There is much evidence to show that the culprit accumulation of fat is not only fat but sugar. Exclude all sugars and use the honey as an alternative. You have to start the day with a glass of lukewarm water and a teaspoon of honey. In the breakfast you can insert integral pastry with honey. Remember, half an hour before bedtime, repeat this process!

Rule 2: Choose unrefined carbohydrates

Whole grain bread, pasta and rice ingredients are rich in fiber and they encourage better digestion. If you want to have a sense of satiety, insert proteins and plenty of vegetables in your meals.

Rule 3: Eat protein

Eat grilled fish, chicken without skin, pork, beef, eggs… These foods will keep you full and reduce your need for intake of sugars in the body.

Rule 4: Salad, vegetables, fruit…

There is no rule in this diet which will limit how much salad you can eat. Eat at least two fruits a day. Also, eat yogurt, cottage cheese and milk.

Prohibited:

  • Fast food, chips, snacks, sweets, soft drinks, fried foods, processed foods, etc…
  • Choose one day a week and that day exclude carbs completely.
  • With this diet forget the potato in any form.

Five Most Common Diet Blunders

Tricks of the dieting world

Alright, let’s get right down to business. Sadly, a lot of you are fooled into believing certain things when it comes to dieting. Words carry zero merit if they are invalid and spoken by self-proclaimed experts.

And often, these aren’t experts at all.

Just because someone decides to give up an entire food group and they lose weight, they think it’s gospel and they spew wisdom across the countryside. But I’m not buying it.

Since I mentioned giving up food groups, let’s start right there.

1. Cutting out entire food groups

Sorry, but if you want fast weight loss, you do not need to take measures as drastic as abstaining from entire food groups.

This is quite popular in many diet plans these days, which will remain nameless. You can easily pick them out though.

God designed this earth with all the provisions one would need for survival upon it.

This includes fruits, vegetables, potatoes, berries, nuts and seeds.

In an attempt to smelt away fat quickly, people like to rid themselves of carbs and eat a high protein/high fat diet. From a molecular level, this type of diet will keep your blood sugar levels stable, which is good news. But that’s about where the good news ends.

Depriving yourself of carbs can leave you lying in a heap, fast asleep on the weight bench with drool running down your chin like a baby.

It can also lead to constipation and irritability, which can also lead to social isolation by default.

2. Who wants to hang out with a constipated, irritable curmudgeon?

The bottom line is, your body needs carbs to function properly.

But you need to grow up and learn the difference between good carbs and bad carbs.

Steer clear of the processed stuff like white bread, cookies, cakes, pastries, sweet drinks and yes, alcohol. One or two alcoholic beverages on occasion is fine, but draw the line there.

Stick with complex carbs like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, sweet potatoes, yams and legumes.

All of these carbs are high in vitamins, minerals and fiber.

3. Not eating past 6 o’clock

This is perhaps my most hated diet blunder.

Why in the name of Bruce Lee’s ghost would you not want to eat past 6 o’clock? Holy heck; if this were true, I’d be severely malnourished because I often don’t even get home from the gym until well after 6.

Here’s the deal. Your body needs a certain amount of calories to survive the day. You will often hear this number referred to as resting metabolic rate (RMR).

Your body really doesn’t care when it gets fed as long as you supply it with enough calories to function.

If you’re RMR happens to be 2,200 calories, 6 o’clock rolls around and you’ve only consumed 1,500 to this point, do you really think you’ll get fat if you eat another 500 calories at say, 8 o’clock?

It’s highly unlikely. Eat the bloody food, feel good about it and move forward.

4. Eating too little calories

What happens to a fire when you stop putting logs on it? It goes out, that’s what. Think of your body the same way.

People trying to lose weight often follow a severely calorie-restricted diet. Wrong move!

Much like a fireplace, your metabolism would go dormant if you eat too little.

A slower metabolism means you will not lose weight as fast.

Plus, you will hold on to existing weight like Uma Thurman holds on to a Hattori Hanzo samurai sword in Kill Bill.

Your best bet is to eat small, frequent meals spaced 2 to 3 hours apart through the course of the day. This way you’ll get plenty of calories while keeping your belly satisfied and energy levels high.

5. Low-fat/no-fat nonsense

I can’t believe after all these years, I’m still expending energy talking about the low-fat/no-fat trend. But it is still very much alive and kicking.

Okay, if you buy a package of low-fat cookies, they are going to taste really good. Do you know why? Because they need to compensate for the fact that they took out fat so they load them up with sugar.

Otherwise, they would taste like a sheet of 20-grit sandpaper.

Sugar equals simple carbs and simple carbs have 4 calories per gram. The end result is a cookie that is only marginally less in calories than the original and way higher in processed carbs.

Stay away from these heartbreakers and all other low-fat-no-fat products because they will break your heart when it’s all said and done.

Speaking of said and done, I’m finished.

I have some fitness crime I need to go deal with. Keep these points in mind and you won’t have a thing to worry about.

Moreover, it is not advisable to consume it in the case of gastrointestinal issues, as it can worsen the condition.

It’s Never Been Easier! Eat Whatever You Want and Lose Pounds – The Secret Of Chrono Diet!

If you want to eat and to lose lose weight at the same time, then this chrono – diet is the right solution for you. Even though this diet is used in France since 1986, we’ve just started using it.With this diet you do not have to keep track of the number of calories and amount of food you consume, but you have to eat at the certain time of the day and properly combine foods.

The basic rule in this diet is the distance between meals to be a minimum of four and a maximum of six hours, ideally five.

For breakfast you can eat anything: carbohydrates, proteins, fats. But you should avoid wheat and corn. On the other permitted side you can use flour such as barley, rye, buckwheat and oats. You can eat meat products as well, even bacon. But, you need to be sure they are homemade and without any additives.

For lunch you should consume more proteins, such as beef or lamb, but without carbohydrates or bread. If you eat carbohydrates then beside them you have to eat vegetables. You also need to eat more fresh vegetables in the form of salad.

You can eat sweets and fruit only in the afternoon, between lunch and dinner, not in the morning. The best choice is dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa, and dried fruit for example, figs or prunes.

Afternoon Snack – you should eat a small bit of vegetable fats: avocado, olives, nuts, peanut butter, honey or 30 grams of dark chocolate—a little over two tablespoons worth. Or fruit.

For dinner, you should also consume foods high in protein, such as: chicken breast or fish. Sometimes, you can add cheese to your salad, but that’s when you are no longer in the weight loss process. You should consume raw and fresh vegetables and salads as well.

Well, these are some of the basic rules that you should follow in your entire life, because this is not a classic diet. However, if you have a problem with your weight and you have a lot of weight to lose, then you should go to the restrictive period developed by Dr. Ana Grifing. In this restrictive period, you shouldn’t consume snacks and fruits, because they contain high amounts of sugar. Also, you shouldn’t consume starchy vegetables and carbohydrates for lunch.

Even when you are in the restrictive period, you shouldn’t be worried with how much food did you eat, but you mustn’t eat anything between meals. Absolutely nothing! And you can also follow this rule after the restrictive period as well.

The advantage of this diet is that you never feel hungry, meaning whenever you feel hunger you can grab an apple because there is no restriction on the amount. Our suggestion is that if you want to keep the apple diet various, buy different types of apples in order not to get bored with only one apple kind.

Five-Day Diet with Watermelons

If you love watermelon, then this is the answer to all your prayers for well-shaped body. This diet should follow a simple rule: eat at least a pound of watermelon a day. Also, it is desirable to include five smaller meals a day. While holding this diet it is highly recommended to avoid drinking beverages that have sugar and make sure you don’t have high blood pressure.

Those who have problems with the kidneys or liver, should also avoid this alternative diet plan. If you don’t want to get fed up with eating watermelons during these days you can sometimes make fresh squeezed juice, smoothie or fruit salad.

Pineapple Diet for Seven Days

Offer your body complete detoxification with a healthy and simple diet. With this diet there is no need to deprive yourself of food to reduce excess weight. Instead, all you need to do is to eat three normal meals and consume only two pieces of pineapple a day. Nutritionists who created this diet also recommended a two-day session of completely cleansing the body of toxins when you are supposed to eat only pineapple.

If you decide to take this step, you should do the detoxification of the body in two consecutive days of the week while holding diet. Although this is not a diet that should be followed on the long term, yet this diet can be very helpful for those who want to reduce weight quickly.

Four-Day Kiwi Diet

Kiwi is one of the best weight loss options because of many factors, especially because it is a fruit with a very low glycemic index. This means that it causes slow burning of carbohydrates and gradually release glucose into the blood, which means that it burns fat easier and, equally importantly, it reduces the feeling of hunger.

It contains two times more vitamin C than an orange and it is the only fruit that contains aktinidin, an enzyme that helps create proteins easier and improves the digestive system. It contains about 60 calories in 100 grams and it is rich in fiber.

Eat 3 kiwi on empty stomach before breakfast and 2 kiwi as an afternoon snack. For breakfast and for lunch try to consume light meals or seasonal salads.  The main idea in this diet that you should pay attention to is to avoid eating late at night.

Seven-Day Diet with Berries

Berries are rich in fiber, vitamins and antioxidants. Therefore, they are great for “disappearance” of your pounds and cleansing your body of harmful toxins. Make juice from your favorite berries ( a cup of them) or you can use mixed berries. Then add a cup of purified water and drink this  beverage on empty stomach as  a substitution for  breakfast. The results will be amazing. It is also advisable to eat “lighter” meals during these seven days in order not to overburden your digestive system during  this detox diet.

Relationship Between Exercise & Diet

When it comes to health and fitness, diet and exercise go hand in hand. Hitting the gym on a diet full of junk food may prevent you from working out to your full potential. Conversely, if you're eating a healthy diet but not exercising, you may have difficulty maintaining a healthy weight. The key to good health and a long vibrant life is combining a healthy diet with regular exercise.

Weight Loss

It's easy to lose weight, but hard to keep it off. Only about 5 percent of people who lose weight through diet alone manage to keep the pounds from creeping back on, according to the American Council on Exercise. To lose weight, you need to create a negative calorie balance by eating fewer calories, burning more calories through exercise or a combination of both. People who are successful at losing weight and keeping it off eat fewer calories and exercise more than people who don't.

Improved Workout

If you're feeling a little sluggish during your workout, it may be because of your diet. Making healthy food choices before and after your workout prevents muscle fatigue, improves energy levels and promotes cardiovascular health. Good preworkout snacks should include carbohydrates to energize your muscles such as fruit and yogurt, trail mix, or a banana with peanut butter. After your workout, rehydrate with water and restore energy levels with carbohydrate snacks such as cereal and milk or juice and crackers.

Muscle Power

Diet and exercise work together when it comes to building muscle. Exercise stimulates your muscles and promotes muscle protein synthesis. Eating protein immediately after your workout, whether it's an aerobic or a strength-training workout, helps repair and replenish your muscles, and promotes muscle growth. This doesn't mean you need to eat a high-protein diet to increase muscle power. A healthy, balanced diet for exercise consists of getting 15 percent of your calories from protein, 55 percent from carbohydrates and 30 percent from fat, according to Natalie Digate Muth, MD, MPH, RD, senior nutrition consultant for the American Council on Exercise.

Overall Health

Diet and exercise together help prevent obesity and reduce your risk of heart disease. Working out and eating right improves blood lipid levels, which promotes heart health. Other than not smoking, the most important things you can do to reduce your risk of cancer are to be active, eat a healthy diet that includes many plant-based foods and maintain a healthy weight, according to the American Cancer Society.

Diets for Women to Lose Weight on Their Butts & Thighs

Being overweight or obese has many disadvantages for a woman's health. However, if most of your excess weight is in the lower portion of your body -- where women tend to put on the most weight -- you may be better off. Women who are pear-shaped are at lower risk for developing diabetes and blood lipid abnormalities, according to a 2004 "International Journal of Obesity" study. At the same time, fat on the thighs and butt is difficult to shed and is responsible for unsightly flab and cellulite.

Reduce Calorie Intake

You will be most successful at losing weight by consuming the appropriate amount of calories. In order to shed pounds, you need to take in fewer calories than you use. The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, NHLBI, explains that the number of calories each individual should consume is based on gender, age and activity level. The least active you are, the fewer calories you need. Healthy females who are sedentary, meaning they get little, if any, exercise outside of their ordinary routine, need about 1,600 to 2,000 calories a day. Moderately active females need 1,800 to 2,200 calories. If you take in more calories than you burn, your body will store the excess calories as fat. Women with a pear-shaped physique are more likely to store that fat in the butt and thighs.

Eliminate High Calorie Foods

Consuming 150 calories a day above the amount you burn through physical activity can lead to gaining 5 lbs. over the course of six months, according to the NHLBI. By eliminating one beverage or one snack a day, and choosing healthier recipes, you can easily reduce your calorie intake. Drink zero-calorie water or club soda rather than a 136-calorie cola. A large serving of fast food French fries can have more than twice as many calories as a small serving. You will eliminate 320 calories from your diet by opting for a small French fry at one popular fast food eatery. When eating an omelette, choose egg whites, which have roughly 79 calories, versus one made from regular eggs, which can have 600 calories based on a three-egg omelette.

Eat Healthier Foods

Simply increasing your family's intake of healthier foods could significantly impact your body mass index. In a 2008 study published in the journal "Obesity," children in families that introduced healthier foods, such as fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy and reduced energy-dense foods with limited nutritional value, showed a greater reduction in overall body fat compared to families who continued eating an diet high in energy-dense foods. Body mass reduction in the parents followed the same pattern as their children. The Mayo Clinic suggests eating foods that are low in calories but can make you feel fuller longer, known as low-energy-dense foods. Several fruits and vegetables are high in water content and low in calories, such as grapefruit and carrots. Foods high in fiber take longer to digest, which makes you feel fuller on fewer calories. Good examples are vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Dairy and lean meat contain fat, which can make you feel satiated longer. The key is to take in lean sources of fat, such as low-fat milk and poultry. Also, nuts, seeds and olive oil contain healthy, monounsaturated fats.

Facts About Target Weight Loss

Unfortunately, there is no way to target and reduce fat in just one area of your body. You can, however, reduce the size of your thighs and butt by taking in fewer calories and consuming healthier foods. As the pounds fall away, the change in areas you gain the most weight could show a more dramatic improvement compared to areas where you have less fat. According to an article published by "Scientific American," no cream, injection, pill or other gimmick will reduce excess weight in a woman's butt or thighs. The only way to shed pounds here is with a sensible diet and regular exercise.

9 Unhealthy and Even Dangerous Weight Loss Diets

We humans are forever in search of a quick and easy way to lose weight. Fad diets seduce us with their promised “drastic” results and implied ease and simplicity, but they’re rarely reasonable -- or even healthy. These nine fad diets of yesterday and today range from the doable to the extreme! Remember: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, and it could even be harmful. Read on to find out which fad diets we don’t miss.

1. Tapeworm Diet - Not for the squeamish, this fad has reportedly been around since the dawn of the 20th century. Brave souls would swallow tapeworm cyst pills, so tapeworms would grow and mature inside their intestines, eating all food products until the dieter’s goal weight is reached. Said tapeworm is then excreted with the aid of an anti-parasite pill. Mind you, tapeworms can get pretty damn huge -- as long as 30 feet -- and can cause a whole mess of health issues, like diarrhea, vomiting, headaches and even epilepsy. Erin Palinski-Wade, RD, says this is in no way a viable weight-loss option. “This is an incredibly dangerous and unhealthy weight-loss option that could potentially be deadly,” says Palinkski-Wade. “Not only would this lead to serious nutrient deficiencies that can have lifelong complications, but you would regain the weight back as soon as the parasite is killed.”

2. Hollywood Diet -Jamie and Larry, creators of the Hollywood Diet, have long claimed their products and regimens will help you miraculously lose weight while you’re treated, as their website promises, “like a star.” Their small selection of shakes and cookies for sale, on which you are to subside for 24 hours or more, will reportedly lead to a weight loss of two to nine pounds. Extreme low-calorie diets like this can be dangerous, especially when followed for more than a couple of days, warns Los Angeles-based nutritionist Alyse Levine M.S., RD. “This diet puts your body into starvation mode, and most of the weight loss you experience in the first few days will be water weight,” says Levine. Added potential side effects may include diarrhea, fatigue, constipation and nausea.

3. Baby Food Diet - Reportedly, celebrity fitness guru Tracy Anderson touted this fad diet to her ultra-famous clientele. The idea is to replace breakfast and lunch with tiny jarred rations of puréed food and then to eat a low-calorie dinner. Sure, babies subsist just fine on tiny, jarred rations of puréed food, and if you’re a grown-up and choose to eat nothing but tiny jars of puréed food, you’ll likely lose the same amount of weight you would if you ate tiny portions of any food. This leaves ease of portion control and the convenience of jarred, prepared food as this regimen’s sole selling point. Granted, it’s free of additives and preservatives, but don’t grown-ups deserve the dignity of using forks? “This diet deprives you of the pleasures of eating real food and is not a good long-term approach to weight loss,” says Levine, adding that it’s much easier -- and more civilized -- to just up consumption of fruits and vegetables and decrease sodium content.

4. K-E Diet, aka the Feeding-Tube Diet - Talk about extreme! This doctor-affiliated/monitored recent fad diet has you eating via a feeding tube. Yes, a feeding tube. A “very low-calorie, protein- and fat-rich” solution with no carbs whatsoever is pumped through a tube the size of a strand of spaghetti that is inserted through your nose and into your stomach where it empties. Your body goes into ketosis, burning your own fat at a faster pace. “The fact that one would resort to a feeding tube to lose weight is appalling,” says Levine. “This very low-calorie restricted plan is no more effective for short-term weight loss than just restricting your calorie intake of regularly consumed food.” Aside from that, complications from this diet may include constipation, kidney stones, dehydration, dizziness and headaches, and, Levine adds, “a more unhealthy relationship with food.”

5. Werewolf Diet - The concept behind this diet is that water weight ebbs and flows like the tide. Because humans are also made of water, the Moon Connection website claims fasting during either a full or new moon can cleanse your body of water weight and toxins at a more accelerated pace -- up to six pounds in a single day. There’s a quickie version and a more prolonged version. Fasting for short periods of time here and there might not be so bad for us, but weight loss shouldn’t be the motivation, says Levine. “There’s no scientific evidence that our bodies need a detox diet or cleanse,” adds Levine. “Our kidneys naturally detoxify our bodies 24 hours a day by removing waste -- there’s no need for a liquid fast to do so.” Instead, Levine recommends simply increasing water intake to eight to 10 cups per day, keeping sodium to 2,300 milligrams or less per day, and increasing whole foods while limiting processed foods -- regardless of the moon phase.

6. Master Cleanse, aka the Lemonade Diet - Based on the book “The Master Cleanser” by Stanley Burroughs, the Master Cleanse, or lemonade diet, has been around for a while and name-dropped by plenty of the Beyoncés of the world because it’s a fast and easy…fast. As this miraculous elixir consists only of water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup, you’ll lose some water weight -- but not for long, says Los Angeles-based nutritionist Alyse Levine M.S., RD. “The likelihood is that you’ll gain all the weight back and more once you go back to eating solid food,” says Levine. “You may also have a harder time losing weight in the future, since such low-calorie diets cause you to lose muscle mass and decrease your metabolism.” So what’s the point?

7. Sleeping-Beauty Diet - We’ve all heard of sleeping off a hangover or a cold, right? What if you were to sedate yourself into skipping a bunch of meals? Made popular after an honorable mention in the popular ’60s novel “Valley of the Dolls” and Elvis Presley’s rumored participation, this is by far the laziest fad diet of them all. All you have to do is drug yourself unconscious until you wake up thinner days later. Basically, it’s starvation with a side of muscle atrophy, says registered dietitian Erin Palinski-Wade. “Not only can not eating or drinking for days lead to a slower metabolism and dehydration, but the harm you will cause to all of your body’s organs from taking unregulated drugs (or improper use of prescription drugs) can be fatal,” she adds.

8. Cabbage Soup Diet - This age-old fad diet took simplicity to the extreme, pairing down what you could eat to a few food groups to total less than 1,000 calories a day. Limiting your diet so dramatically isn’t a good idea, says Erin Palinski-Wade, RD, CDE, author of “Belly Fat Diet for Dummies.” “Living off of cabbage soup and a few specific foods over a period of time is not a healthy way to lose weight,” says Palinski-Wade. “Vegetables are high in volume while low in calories. Not only is the calorie range so low that it may slow your metabolism, but this restrictive diet may promote nutrient deficiencies if followed long term, such as deficiencies in protein and essential fatty acids.” Instead, Palinski-Wade recommends filling half your plate with veggies and the other half with lean protein and healthy, whole-grain carbs.

9. Grapefruit Diet Dating as far back as the 1930s, this fad diet still retains some level of popularity. The premise is simple: If you eat a grapefruit before eating anything else, drink lots of water, cut out carbs and eat lean protein, you’ll burn more fat. Fans of this diet say if you do it for around 10 days, you can lose up to 10 pounds. There may be a kernel of truth to this one, says Erin Palinski-Wade, RD. “It’s been suggested that eating grapefruit can help to slim the waistline and lower body weight, most likely due to the diuretic properties of grapefruit helping to shed water weight. In addition, the fruit makes a great high-volume, low-calorie option, helping to keep you full and encouraging less total calorie intake during the day.” Still, isn’t there just so much grapefruit one can eat?

The Weight Loss Magic of Green Tea

In the quest to lose weight by people who may be on the fat side, it is necessary to combine a few effective lifestyle practices to achieve the weight loss goal. Routine daily exercise and a good diet plan are major keys to help get rid of those extra pounds. Anyone who has been actively seeking for ways to lose weight must have heard some good things about drinking green tea, as a weight loss strategy. You probably would like to get more information about this wonder brew and how it aids in weight loss. Here it is;

Green tea is a powerful drink that has been regularly consumed by people in Asia for several thousand years now. It has substantial health benefits that are believed to play a direct, positive impact on weight control, which can be attributed to the fact that this beverage contains many polyphenols. Polyphenols contain anti-oxidants that can fight free radicals from attacking healthy cells.

What makes this tea so special is the production process. With most black tea that we commonly drink, the nutrients can be lost during processing. This is because dried tea leaves are used, whereas with green tea, only fresh leaves are used. The fresh leaves are usually steamed at very high temperatures.

Although green tea isn't exactly caffeine-free, it has much lower milligrams of caffeine when compared to other tea drinks. Even though it gives you the pep of coffee, it does something that is nothing short of a miracle for people looking to lose weight. Coffee raises insulin levels, and insulin can sabotage fat loss. Green tea lowers insulin level; as a result your body fat reduces.

Drinking 3 cups of this amazing tea during the day can raise your metabolism by 4% over the course of 24 hours, which means better efforts at losing weight. Green tea also helps inhibit glucose from turning to fat cells The drink itself is low-calorie, and many people like to include it as part of their weight loss plan, because it can help control your appetite.

In a nutshell, green tea helps your body to be more active, and this goes a long way in helping to burn fat. Without a doubt, these interesting facts and benefits about the precious tea would surely be helpful in your weight loss goal. Does this not make you want to start incorporating it into your diet plan?

Why Dieting Will Never Work If You Don't Know Your Body

Let's face it, at one point or another most of us have had that feeling. We look in a mirror and all we can say is "Wow." What happened? How did we let ourselves get this way? Usually what follows is looking up whatever diet is the new "in" diet so that we can lose the extra pounds. And therein lies the problem. Each of us are different. Our bodies are made differently and we need to understand and respect that. Plus everyone gets into that situation differently. Some people eat too much fast food, some drink too much soda, some have no idea what portion control is and some just need to restrict certain things like fats or carbs. Whatever the reason, you need to figure out the cause before you can come up with the solution.

Fast Food Addict

Do you find yourself always on the go? No time to cook, so you'll just pick something up on the way? You may be a fast food addict. We all know fast food has a huge amount of salt, fat, and additives, but it's just so darn convenient. If this is you, simply eating more food at home may be the answer to your problems. I know how hard it can be to find the time to cook. At one point in my career, I was working 12 hour overnight shifts at a job that was 45 minutes from my house. The last thing I wanted to do in what little free time I was given was to cook for myself, so, I would just grab something on the way home. I put on 30 pounds in six months. If you have the budget for it, consider getting onto a program where the food is prepared for you. There are several out there, just Google them. If that is not an option for you, then you need to find time to cook. My solution was to prepare a week's worth of food on one of my days off. I would make one or two different dishes and refrigerate a few day's worth while freezing the rest. That way, dinner was ready in a couple of minutes while I save a lot of money by not going out to eat. Cooking at home takes a lot of time if you do it every day, however if you spend only one day a week cooking a larger quantity of food, it takes less time overall because not only are you not having to put in the work every day, cooking a larger amount of food only takes a little but more time than cooking a single meal.

Junk Food Addict

Do you crave candy throughout the day? Maybe you go through a soda or two every day of the week. Junk if is always good even if it is never really good for you. If you find it hard to get through the day without craving something that is all but devoid of nutritional value, you may be a junk food addict. While it if OK to eat a candy bar every so often, having one every day is going to lead to problems. If you simply have to satisfy your sweet tooth, and you want to lose weight, you need to make smarter choices. As much as some people seem adverse to it, fruit really is a good choice. It is sweet while also having a good amount of nutritional value. Plus, eating something natural is always preferable to the preservatives and artificial stuff found in candy and soda. If the whole fruit thing is not your style, you can always try dark chocolate. Just make sure to have no more that one piece a day, and make sure it is very dark. I would recommend 80% or more.

Portion Control

One common problem is that people simply don't know what an acceptable portion is. The common misconception is that you just fill up the plate, and your portions just be good. Loading up with a couple pounds of pasta is not the same as having one portion. Portion size is different for all foods, and you should Google "portion size" to get an idea as to what you should be eating. Things that may help at home are a food scale and measuring out what you eat before putting it on your plate. A food scale allows you to see what one portion of chicken or beef you should serve. If you want a six-ounce piece of chicken, you simply put it on the scale and you know you are eating the right amount. Likewise, you can use a simple measuring cup to figure out what a half cup of spaghetti sauce or a cup of vegetables looks like. All of these things can help to get an idea as to how much you should actually be eating for a meal.

Low Fat vs. Low Carb

This one is big because both sides have supporters and both sides have had fad diets associated with them. The main thing here is to remember not to eliminate anything, but simply reduce whatever one you know causes problems for you. I know through years of trial and error that a low carb approach works for me. The only reason I know that is because I have spent many years trying to lose weight, and have tried just about every kind of diet out there. You just need to analyze what you are eating. Do you eat a lot of bread and potatoes with every meal? Do you find yourself craving snacks like crackers and pretzels instead of sweets? Then you may need to watch your carbs to help you lose weight. If on the other hand you are always looking for snacks high in fats, or filled with oil, then going low-fat me be in your best interest. Just keep in mind that you do not want to eliminate anything, just reduce the foods that may be a problem for you.
